I mostly prefer forum posting for getting quality backlinks. The forum posts will actually increase your SERPs in Google. Think of 50 posts as 50 new backlinks which is 50 votes for your website on Google (as google counts any link as a vote in favor of your website). The more posts and forums you do, the more Google will favor you. Forum Signature also provide some clicks. As the guy is actively posting with your signature you'll see some people click through and depending on your niche and the signature you want him to use, this will be targeted traffic. It will not likely be much traffic though. The real benefit of forum posting is to raise SERPs in Google.

These things called Backlinks are beneficial, to grow embattled traffic to any web based site when they are do-follow. Just construct links from value sites that works.

There are number of strategy that can help you to boost your website, for achieving your goal so you can't depend with one, you have to follow all the strategy, focus on quality work, use fresh content etc. don't over optimize & bulk submission.
