Are you aware that short tail is also known as generic/broad term, and mostly competitive.
Don't you know that if you search for a short term on the web you are more likely to get a definition? Which doesn't make sense if you are looking for a certain information. People searching on the web are most likely using a query (long tail).

Short tail keywords gain more traffic than long tail keywords, it depends on your needs and budget. But if you're operating on a less budget, it may make more sense to invest time in chasing high search rankings for long tail keywords.

Long tail keywords are less competitive as compared to the short tail keywords. So, the long tail keywords doesn't required much focus as compared to short tail keywords. As I use both long as well as short tail keywords. My keyword strategy is focusing on both type of keyword and working on more than 10 keywords at a time.

When it comes to volume, short tail keyword is going to win long tail keyword every time. The shorter the keyword is, the higher the search volume. If you could rank for a short tail keyword, you're definitely going to get plenty of organic traffic.
