sitemap is only required by google, when you want google to know about pages which are not linked in your main website. If all your pages are properly linked in your website then a sitemap is not important.

Sitemap is very important for Website, there are two type Sitemap, one is XML sitemap which is helpful for crawling your site url by search engine, and one is html which is helpful for visitor to get all url of the website at one page.

We use sitemap so that when crawler come to visit your site he did not find and type of difficulties during crawling your site.If you don't use sitemap then crawler may face some problems during visiting your site and it may create some problems.

sitemap is important for search engine's, it has all the links of web pages in the website that help the crawler to reach all the pages.

Sitemap is very effective and useful for crawlers and users also. sitemap.xml is for crawlers and sitemap.html is for user which provide all pages for user and crawlers. it's also very effective to good ranking.
