In the early days of search when relevance algorithms were rather weak, many folks used “double dashed” domains because they were cheap to buy, and easy to rank.

EMD means Exact Match Domains.
Recently, Google released the EMD algo change which targeted low quality EMD sites. These are sites that are EMD but do not contain any relevant/helpful information on the keyword the keyword they're ranking for using their domain name.
Before, EMDs can rank for their target keywords merely for having the exact target keywords on their domain name.

EMD stands for "Exact Match Domain" and it is updated new algorithm form google. Now Google is not giving high weightage to particular keywords urls. So people can stay away to buy keywords url. Google only giving priority to high quality content after panda updated

EMD, Exact Match Domain, if you make a good keyword related domain and your site is not good in quality basis, google will penalize your site. it's called EMD.

EMD means exact match domain a new google update. before we were thinking to buy one domain same as keyword name to get higher ranking in less time, so after google updated EMD and all the low quality websites penalized and lost ranking.
