Page ranking of sites
Web directories are the directories, which contain the link of several other types of websites like computers, art, education, business, real estate, entertainment, etc. If you want to search any site in web directories, you are not supposed to use the keywords. You will not get any results by it. You have to search with the help of website links categories and subcategories. You can submit your website in the web directories. It will help you to get the reviews of your site by people. People often visit these web directories in order to search their results and while searching they give review to it.

Directories are not valid much now especially free directories... hard to get referral traffic because site links will be very deep pages and rare peoples will navigate on directories and Low chance on indexing by SE too. So instead of wasting time in directory submission and waiting for the approve.. go for other SEO technics and get a good position in GOOGLE SERP

Directories but with good PR and status are always helpful to increase ranking of you website. Social bookmarking website also give good result with proper submission.

Directory submission is still good link building technique in search engine optimization process. But submitting your site on high page rank do-follow directories is the most important thing in directory submission. Otherwise you will not get good results from directory submission. A quality directory submission will always improve your site ranking in search engines.

niche directories are worth the time, but only when you've exhausted all other options. Same goes for articles- unless it's a blog that allows for guest posting
