Microsoft, H-P lead techs, Dow higher
Shares of Microsoft Corp. MSFT +2.32% and Hewlett-Packard Co. HPQ +0.23% propelled the tech sector to early gains on Friday, as the stocks emerged as the best performers on the Dow Jones Industrial Average at the opening bell. H-P and Microsoft each rose 1%, as the Dow edged higher by 47 points. Wall Street got a lift from news from Europe that central bankers are prepared to act in case the upcoming Greek elections lead to more financial uncertainty. The Nasdaq Composite index COMP +1.29% was up 5 points, or 0.2%, at 2,841. Gains also came from Facebook Inc. FB +6.09% , Oracle Corp. ORCL +2.94% and IBM Corp. IBM +2.05% . On the downside, shares of Google Inc. GOOG +0.98% , Apple Inc. AAPL +0.45% and Yahoo Inc. YHOO 0.00% were fractionally lower.
