Not sure if it's the best but I think the most common are blog comment back links and forum comment back links, there's probably a heap of stealthy methods I've never even heard of . . . yet!

i dont think there is anything called best type of seo. seo task of a website contains search engine submission, article writing, directory submission, backlink etc.

SEO are of two types:
On page
Off page

Both are necessary part for promoting a website

In my opinion, both On-page and Off-page SEO has its own advantages and disadvantages, of course it will be you to decide what strategy will you use at your expertise.

There is both on-page and off-page (as other�s have already mentioned). Both of them are helpful and necessary in SEO. As for what works best, it depends on you and your business. I would just start experimenting with some different ways and see what helps your site the most. Good luck!
