Dedicated or Virtual Dedicated?
I'm trying to help a friend out. Right now, he's being hosted on a server with 151 other sites on it. The site sometimes gets slow and the server load skyrockets....and it's probably because of his site. His host has actually been kind and letting him stay despite his resource usage.....but I've been trying to convince him to move to his own server or at least a virtual dedicated server.
The site consists of a Simple Machines Forum message board with an average of 109 users at peak per day (and most of the day there's at least 75 people logged on) with chat rooms, photo gallery, and a Media Wiki-powered FAQ. Right now, he's using approx. 1 GB of web space and almost 300 MB of MySQL. In the past months, he actually had to get extra bandwidth for going over his 65 GB per month limit. Do you think he could get away with a high-end virtual dedicated server? Or should he be going with a full blown dedicated server? |
