If I would like to rank well for "blue widgets" and "round widgets" can I combine the keywords in inbound link text ?

i.e. blue round widgets

Does this dilute the weight ? or does it also stand to make more combinations as in using single keywords.

Does it matter which order they are in ?

i.e. widgets - blue round

Why on't you use Google Websmaster tools first to see if there are any other keywords that have less competition but ranks well? I think combining them like that will make new keyword but in my opinion, the new keyword is more effective than your first two.

You can combine those two keywords without any issues, i dont think that there is gonna be any issue with respect to the position of the words too.

You can build inbound back link using companied keywords or relevant keyword phrase.

Sometimes its make another sense but if you are using some regular-spoken words. if any keywords related to any machine name which exactly not mean from dictionary. In this situation we can mix keyword and make better result for both different keywords in Search engine.
