Spiders, robots and crawlers are all the same but mentioned by different set of names. The search engine uses these as to read a particular webpage everyday which in turn depicts in the SERP. Also implementing sitemap.xml helps these crawlers to go through your website on a daily basis with the required set of frequency depicted in them
