It had been mentioned as 55 characters for title tag and 115 characters for meta description but its not a sure and official update from google themselves.So its better to focus on the previous characters limit.

Google allowed 160 character for description & 55 for meta tag.

The length of Meta description should be of 150-170 characters.Description contains all target keywords.

Meta description to be between 150 – 160 characters, and most SEO’s tend to agree that the optimal length of a Meta Description is around 155 characters to ensure full display.

Meta title must be 60-70 characters and meta description must be 160-170 characters.
