yes definitely, if you want ranking for your keywords you need to get back link from same theme websites, because it helps in getting rank very fast. I have more than 4 years experience in seo and i really feel it.

What type of blog sites are you commenting on? Ones that are related to your industry?

It is important to get backlinks from your related niche websites and blogs. Irrelevant backlinks are not liked by google. Recent penguin update hit those websites who got bad backlinks. So while building backlinks always try to connect with high quality same niche websites.

Blog commenting is a genuine way to get back links but we need to comment in high quality and high page rank having websites. If not it will not effect to your expectation.
