Alexa depends upon the traffic that pass through their toolbars. That's mean alexa only count those visitors who have installed alexa tootlbar on their browser and then make a estimate of rank.
To improve rank update your blog daily, share your blog post on various social sites, use directory submission sites, do some link building and main thing write about blogging and share on social site. Because most of bloggers install alexa tootlbar which will help you to improve your alexa.
If you are not on blogging niche or it is opposite of your readers taste then simply add a post on your blogging life and belive people will love it and your alexa will improve for sure.

From personal experience I feel that one can only get the rating of web site up is when he does the hard work and build the content instead of expecting any miracle as without hard work there is no miracles happening no matter how much one try so to increase Alexa we need to hard work and also have good domain name with the best hosting site.
