yes, you will never go wrong with white hat techniques. Black hat stuff is only for short term gains, and by time will get blacklisted by Google.

I found out that i had two different websites even though i only had one site, one had www. the other didnt. That lost me high page ranking because of this. Once sorted i see a large increase.
