keywords plays an important role for SEO , so use those keyword which relates you website title or having some density. there are many tools to find keywords such as "wordtracker" , google adward tool etc.

Yes it is important to use Google keyword planner.

But I have another issue: is focus keyword still important in writing your blog posts and pages?
I heard that it is still important with respect to page title and SEO-title but using a focus keyword in the content would no longer be important to Google.

Is this correct?

Both extremes mean poor search results. When you do your research, remember that you don’t want keywords that no one searches, and you don’t want keywords that millions of people search. To improve your search engine ranking, you want to choose keywords that are in the middle–moderate search volume that suggests it’s worth your time investment to try to rank for those keywords
