Some important meta tags that one must use in the web page are:
1. Title Tag: <title>The title of the Page</title> (Unique title for your page)
Limit: Google typically displays the first 50-60 characters of a title tag
2. Description Tag: <meta name = "Description" Content="Description of the Page">
Limit: Roughly 155 Characters
3. Keyword Tag: <meta name="Keyword" Content="Your Keywords">

There are many meta tags and HTML-tags and obviously, they don't all influence the search result. For example, the HTML cookie tag doesn't have any influence on your ranking with the search engines but the title of your page, the keywords and the description meta tag are very important.
