Your keyword strategy should have given you some idea what you want to write about. For blog posts, you will usually aim for a long tail keyword (containing multiple words). In our Yoast SEO plugin you will find a drop down menu which supplements your entry with suggestions. These suggestions are actually based on Google Suggest. This is exactly the same as what you’d see when you type the search term into a Google search box.

Some other things to consider when doing keyword research:
1. Capitalize on misspelled words especially if the term is hard to spell
2. Look for keyword insights offline - pick up a trade magazine for your niche and get keyword insights from there
3. Pay attention to the number of searches and number of sites competing for the same keyword (found on Google keyword tool or Rank Tracker tool -see below)
4. An even better approach to keyword research would be to calculate a KEI ratio for a keyword.

Use social media like twitter to find what people search more about your niche. Find top hashtags and titles of twitter statuses. For example if your site is about "social media" then people search for "Social media tools". If your site is about Search Engine people search about how to optimize your site for search engine.

Google keyword planner is one of the best tool to find relevant keywords for your website.

Choosing the right keywords to target will depends on you.
How do you want people to find you? I mean, what keyword or keyword phrases you'd want people to use to to be able to find your site?
It should also revolve on what niche you are in to.

Search in Google for "Keyword Research Ebook (Backlinko)" and click on the first result which will take you to a site called backlinko.com. Click on the link that says "Click here" and enter your name and email address and you will receive a ebook in your inbox. Read the ebook carefully and you will find all the information as to how to do proper keyword research.
