The EMD Update — for “Exact Match Domain” — is a filter Google launched in September 2012 to prevent poor quality sites from ranking well simply because they had words that match search terms in their domain names.

Exact Match Domains are, in general, domain names that exactly match the keyword a website wants to compete for. For example, if a website wants to rank for the term [buy facebook likes 99], an exact match domain would be [buyfacebooklikes99.co.uk].

Earlier people took domain on the basis of keywords and wanted to rank easily . Seeing these Google brought an update named EMD "Exact Match Domain" and started to hit back those website which have these domains.
