Social media marketing would be much effective for Brands and organizations dealing with products & services, including both physical and virtual. Since the audience reach is huge, it is cost effective too.

Why Only Social media? You didn't know that social media websites are not helping to get top ranking on Google. Because the backlinks come in from social media website those are nofollow links and nofollow links are not helping to get top rank on Google.
