The meta description is a meta tag that is used to describe the current Web page. It provides a short summary of the page so that readers can decide whether the page is what they are looking for or looks interesting.
The meta description tag is intented to be a brief and concise summary of your page's content. Think of the Yahoo! directory. You see your site title followed by a brief description of your site or business. The meta description tag is designed to provide a brief description of your site which can be used by search engines or directories. The meta description tag takes the following form: <meta name="description" content="Brief description of the contents of your page."> • Google started cutting off descriptions after 155-160 characters. • MSN started cutting off descriptions after 175-180characters. • Yahoo! started cutting off descriptions after 160-165 characters |
