On-page and Off-page are the two basic website optimizing techniques
On-page refers to modifications that can be made to the pages of a website in order to improve its performance. One of the most popular on-page techniques uses keywords, those terms that Web surfers will use when trying to get a hold of your site through a search engine. Professionals advise that, for optimal utility, these words should be placed in the "title" and "meta" tags, in the name of your site's domain, as well as throughout the content of the pages. Off-page techniques, they include things that can be done outside the pages of a website so as to improve its ranking. This is called link building it is like obtaining links from other high-ranking sites. This can either be done by contacting the webmaster and convincing him of the quality of your site which is called link exchange, or by posting links yourself on forums and blogs which allow your web links as signatures.
