Article are typically 350-700 words in length and are written and edited to provide researched information or informed opinions on relevant subjects for the website they will appear on.
Blogs on the other hand are usually fairly short, about 100-300 words, and can be used for a variety of purposes such as highlighting and linking to a longer article on the same or similar subject, discussing a topic too short for a full-length article.
