Euro, pound surge on early Greek election results
The euro shot upward late Sunday after initial Greek election results pointed to the likelihood of a pro-bailout, pro-euro-zone government. The euro EURUSD +0.06% jumped to $1.2747, a full cent above its $1.2646 level in late North American trade Friday. Against the Japanese yen EURJPY +0.54% , the European currency rose to 100.68, up sharply from 99.46. The British pound GBPUSD -0.05% also rallied, hitting $1.5709, up from $1.5690.
