Domain age is a very important part in case of SEO, because if you are doing SEO for very old domain, then this will increase the faith for other webmasters who will directly impact the SEO work.

Domain age does matter but clearly in association with many other factors. There are quality signals that the Search Engines are looking out for before they allow a site to rank well for competitive queries & domain age is likely one of them.

The age of the domain is built up of how long the content has been actually on the web, how long the site has been in promotion,and even the last time content was updated.
So the age of the domain name plays a vital role in ranking.........
If you are having an old domain name...........that adds more credibility to your search engine rankings..
especially google gives more importance to domain age...........
So using this site www.WhoisXY.com , you can gather the information of the domain name creator and owner of the domain name also it displays the information of the domain name that is when is expired & created........its a easy way to find the age of domain name.........

Yes old domain age is useful in SEO & Old domain age is very much important !
Age is factor in SEO but if will be considered only in the well optimized sites

Based on your scenario, it looks like a very easy place to rank. The pages currently ranking there are only ranking because of their age, they obviously aren't even trying to rank for your keyword.

So for that reason, you will be able to beat them with some strong onpage SEO and a little link building.

Although domain age is a factor for SEO, but it will worth only if you keep updating your website till then.
If you would have been updating your website for 9 years with genuine content you would have been on top..
