subdomain is part of the main website, it’s considered a separate entity by search engines. People recognized this and decided to use subdomains for various organization purposes or even when they don’t want certain parts of their website to be indexed by Google with the rest of it. Subdomains are usually used to Create Different Websites for Niches of Users
For example, west.example.com and east.example.com are subdomains of the example.com domain, which in turn is a subdomain of the com top-level domain
