They're important because they underpin the web- ie a link links one site to the next. This allows search engine spiders to crawl from one site to the next....
They're important to website designers becuase they help to determine how good a site is seen as being. However, given link spamming tactics, this has been devalued by Google, who now have some 200 different metrics to rank a website with. |
