There are so many ways to generate backlinks which results in increase in traffic on your website but here I’m sharing few of them which help you generate traffic as well as help in earning quality backlinks:

1. Leverage social bookmarking sites like digg, delicious, reddit etc. for sharing your content.

2. You can leverage some forums by participating in discussions and give genuine solutions to others by giving reference of your content where possible.

3. Also you can use Questions/Answers sites and share your Blog link as well as your website URL as reference link.

4. You can also submit your blog links on some blog directory sites.

5. You can write some Guest posts and give reference links of your website/blog in Guest Blog content/Author Bio.

Directories are a 2 bladed sword, not all are clean actually most are not very clean.
They have a pretty spammy character.
The Yahoo directory was good while it last, DMOZ never was any good.
Directories are specially good for businesses which don't have a website, they can be in a directory and being found by the public. Neat solution. But in modern SEO directories are more a no go.

To get traffic Directories are not so good, to submit for a better standing in search engines? Well if you have an office sure. If not and they are spammy a link could harm you.
