There are number of ways to increase traffic...I prefer some like going social, article writing, guest blogging and press release. Forum posting is an added advantage and it doesn't solely help to climb up on google.

I recently got a lot of traffic (an increase in 1000 pageviews in one day) for writing a post on something right before it started trending. It has leveled down since then but I think it gave my blog a little boost.
