I avoid paid directories, they aren't that strong for SEO purposes. And since they don't guarantee inclusion for their money it can also mean wasted money.

Paid Directories do effective, but not all paid directories. Some do generate back links but they actually not worthy. So while generating back links under Paid Directories do take look on how the web site is, its PR, Do-follow or not, Alexa. Will help you to find a good and effective site.

You have better chance of getting your links indexed in paid directories.
