A 301 redirect means that the page has moved to a new location, permanently. Why does this matter? If you are moving a web page or an entire web site to a new location, for instance if you change your domain name, you want visitors to be able to find your site. A redirect causes the user's browser to automatically forward from the old location to the new one.

In addition, 301 redirect preserve the link juice of the pages that has been moved to another site page.

A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect which passes between 90-99% of link juice (ranking power) to the redirected page. 301 refers to the HTTP status code for this type of redirect. In most instances, the 301 redirect is the best method for implementing redirects on a website.

301 redirect is a method, think of it this way. You are transferring from your old site to your new site and putting up a sign in your old site(home-page) the address of your new site. 301 redirects lets search engine know what is your current website.

301 is very important for any website which create site into two parts. So it is necessary to fix this issues before doing any work on the site.

301 redirection is a permanent redirection from old domain url to new domain url.If you have already created backlinks to your old website, then if a user click on the site then they may experience 404 error. So to avoid that you need to redirect your pages from old to new.
