Backlink Analysis Tools

Is it possible to block people from seeing the backlinks you build for your website? The reason I ask is that someone (selling us a service) is making the claim, and I want to know if that's an obvious sign to not to do business with them.
It is possible, sort of.

They need to own the domains providing the links or at least have FTP access or can get someone who has access to edit robots, txt file and/or .htaccess file.

However, that only prevents tracking that don't use Google's API and doesn't stop Google's link command from functioning. So it is sort of possible but not a 100% foolproof development.
