Going forward
This week I installed windows 10 on one of my desktop machines, now I fully understand this not the place normally to discuss such things as OS. However built into is the OS is microsoft's Cortana and their new lightweight browser Edge. Both are pretty impressive and I guess similar to google's offerings.
The thought though has crossed my mind with Microsoft's target of 1 billion installations within 5 years and sales of 300+ million new devices running windows 10 each year many more users in the future will start using these microsoft offerings. By default they use the Bing search engine which most of us tend to largely ignore as currently most traffic comes from google. If microsoft's targets are met however I can see a time when Bing is going to start making massive gains in the quantity of searches. I was just sat here pondering could this be the beginning of the end for google's dominance in search ? Are we going to start seeing a rush of questions like how do I rank my site on Bing ? I dont expect this will have any major impact overnight but over time I can see a slow chipping away at google's heels. Any thoughts ?
