I was wondering why there's a difference when I use the advanced segment and filter advanced page on page.
For example, on my advanced segment: page= doent match a regular expression = ^/$ Results=many pages with 3,675 pageviews total and on my advanced filter on page: Filter page=exclude =^/$ results=many pages, with pageviews:55,393 total why this situation? there's something wrong on my test??the data should not be the same?? thanks a lot |

Filters can create some serious on-page issues for technical SEO, but are ... you remedy a situation, but only if your filters have a defined path.
A segment that includes “google/organic” but excludes brand landing pages. This allows you to compare overall trends for both brand and non-brand organic keywords.

Segment – For a segment, every visit is checked to see if it satisfies the conditions of the segment. For sessions that satisfy the condition, all rows are returned. For sessions that do not, no rows are returned.
Filter – For a filter all the rows for ALL visits are considered, then only the rows that satisfy the conditions of the filter will be returned.

Filters and Segments are both great tools that allow you to look at your data in a deeper way and gain more actionable insights about the people visiting your site.
You want to use a segment if you are selecting entire visits and you want to use a filter if you are looking at specific events, pageviews etc. for all visits. |

Here is a rundown of 10 contrasts I will clarify in more profundity:
Where to make them. Access level required. Level on which they impact information. Chronicled versus future impact. Lasting versus impermanent impact. Long haul division versus impromptu examination. Quick impact versus impact inside hours. A number of regex characters that are permitted to utilize. Imparting to different clients. Just content string matches versus more extensive coordinating.

For filters, when you make an API request you get back entries of data
which represent rows in a table. Adding a filter simply includes or excludes rows of that final table. Segments operate at a lower level. Currently Google Analytics collects a stream of "hits" (pageviews/events/etc) which are associated with a session. Each dimension and metric Google Analytics exposes can be represented as a function where the parameter is all the sessions in the selected date range.
