Hi,
Soft 404 errors is whene your site give 404 error without 404 http status code.
It can happened on old CMS systems(or unfriendly ones) that show thin\similar pages or show the homepage instead of 404 errors.

The difference is that normal 404 error gives back an http 404 status code, and soft 404 errors dont.

Soft 404 error is returned when the browser requests a resource from the web server and the server returns 200 OK response for a file that does not exist on the server. Hence, in both the cases, file is not present on the server but in case of soft 404 the server returns 200 OK response code by mistake.

404 Error:

The HTTP 404 Not Found Error means that the webpage you were trying to reach could not be found on the server. It is a Client-side Error which means that either the page has been removed or moved and the URL was not changed accordingly, or that you typed in the URL incorrectly.

Soft 404 :

Soft 404 errors is when your site give 404 error without 404 http status code.
It can happened on old CMS systems(or unfriendly ones) that show thin\similar pages or show the homepage instead of 404 errors.

Custom 404 Error:

The 404 or Not Found error message is a HTTP standard response code indicating that the client was able to communicate with a given server, but the server could not find what was requested.

Soft 404:

Soft 404 is a page that looks like a 404 but returns a HTTP status code 200.
