Two ways to build links
Guest blogging and content marketing are two of the most popular methods of promoting a new website.
GUEST BLOGGING
The reason guest blogging is effective is, it increases the authority of your site because it associates your site in a manner far better than mere links: another authoritative blog actually talks about your content, or is promoting your content. This is like a guest speaker getting an introduction at a seminar and the introduction is positive: the audience will warmly accept the guest speaker.
REVERSE GUEST BLOGGING - DOING INTERVIEWS ON YOUR OWN SITE
Sometimes guest blogging can be reversed. For example, you could email a prominent blogger and ask them to be a part of an interview for your new website. Be sure you have valuable and relevant content on your site that is similiar in topic or theme to your guest interviewee. If they accept, send them a list of questions and use their responses as content for a blog post. Then send them the link and they will promote it if they like it. This can be a pleasant experience because you'll get to know a member of the online community that has been successful for some time and you'll learn from them.
CONTENT MARKETING
This is a term that might confuse some people. It just means you're creating an article, artwork, video, audio, even a powerpoint for Slideshare using your original research. How do you start?
Pick a topic that is relevant to your site. My website is about affiliate marketing, so my content marketing piece will be about, say, "How to increase targeted traffic to your affiliate website". The research I will do to make my content marketing piece stand out is, 1) I will take a look at what competitors have compiled and cherry pick the most valuable points they have found through their own research 2) I will Google any research articles on the topic by research firms 3) I will use the compiled list of links to read and compose lists which can then be expanded into sections for an article, a presentation or even a video. Sometimes useful quotes from these researched links can be excellent bits to use in graphics, branded with my website logo and shared on social media, like Twitter.
To sum up, content marketing is original research compiled into a variety of multimedia and shared on social media, your own website and in other places online and even offline.
Generally, Outbound marketing is any content piece you share on other sites (guest blogging, as it is called today). Inbound marketing is any content marketing piece published on your own platforms: your blog, your Twitter, web 2.0 sites, blogger blog, and so on.
