I would go as far as saying social media is high on the list of priorities if you're reaching people for a business. Or even for other ventures. Everyone is on social media these days - therefore, wouldn't it make sense to take advantage of it?
That being said, I find that I try to concentrate on a maximum of two or three outlets. Otherwise, my time is spread too thin. But for things like driving people to view blog posts, I use all avenues to create a social media blast and drive people to my site.
