It's likely that most of your competitors have search engine-friendly content as well. So, optimizing it isn't going to magically push your site into the top 10. You just need to create a page that has great content that people want to link to. If that happens, Google will notice and place you there out of relevance, not because you optimized the page. You need quality, natural backlinks. Perhaps you can write a guest post on a popular blog or something like that.
