Though signature links are no more counted by google now, after the introduction of panda penguin algorithm in 2012. But still few marketeers are using this strategies. Following could be the reason.
1. They are still unaware or uncertain about the effectiveness of panda penguin till date, because these algos are still under beta as i expect.
2. Signature links are still useful because they still give you direct traffic if not search ranks. Sometimes i have also experienced they still help in seo also.
Signatures were a good concept for content marketing in previous days it was healthy and even ethical, because discussions often provide information to search engines, which they seek, in a more real manner. Just imagine we learn a lot of things in real life by community or forum discussions, then why not adapt this model in virtual world also. plus the one who gave information to you also becomes important or useful to you in some sense so you get a signature about him in you mind. Its totally real and ethical google somehow detected that their has been a lot of spamming using this method and hence decided not to count it.
