Social media make it possible for people to communicate with their family and friends even if they are living on the other side of the globe. Some of the pros of social media are: it allows people to follow those who help them better understand the world around them, share their interests, or introduce moments of desired distractions. With social media, communication is fast. But there are also disadvantages in social networking. Social networking reduces or eliminates face-to-face socialization (which could retard or cripple one's social skills developments). It can expose individuals to harassment or inappropriate contact from others.
