It is an amazing way of getting traffic to your site but you have to get the right people first.

I have created one group and I'm going to share my experience with you .. it might help

1) Create an interesting group page which is related to your site.
2) Start adding interesting stuff to the page mainly related to your site but do not be limited to that .. funny posts which make people laugh are very important .. there is nothing more boring than a page which talk about only one subject
3) If you have lots of friends that is great .. if not you need to make lots of friend specially the ones who are interested in ur site stuff/idea
4) You have to join all the relevant groups ... Get involved in all of them .. like the other people comments would make them add you as a friend
5) Then invite your friend to your group page .. Unless the page is really boring no one would leave it and soon you will find people are asking you to join your group

It will take sometime but it is worth it .. good luck
