Nofollow is a value that can be assigned to the rel attribute of the HTML to instruct the search engines that hyperlink should not link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. This helps in reducing the effectiveness of some search engine spam, thereby improving quality of the search engine results.

Dofollow is a value that can be assigned to the rel attribute of the HTML to instruct the search engines that hyperlinks can link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. In short if the webmasters give us a backlink with “dofollow” in the rel attribute, then we get some share of their PageRank and Google would consider the link and our site ranking improves. Similarly if the rel attribute of the HTML is tagged as “nofollow” then it will not be considered by Google and it would impact our website ranking.
