IMPO, a web hosting provider is that who understands the value of a customer and its time & money. For a hosting company, it should not matter whether it is a shared hosting or a vps hosting customer. Equal respect and priority must be given to the customers. Also, there are many things which reflects the quality of a provider such as types of services it offers, ways in which customer and technical support is provided to customer (Phone, Email and Live Chat) and response time to tickets (maximum 30 mins is recommended).
In addition to these, it is highly important to provide basic knowledge such as product FAQ's, web hosting tutorials, etc... via blog, knowledgebase and forums. If a web hosting company is able to cope all these things, then automatically gets satisfied and will think of a long term relationship.
