Sitemaps are of two types. One is called HTML and the other is termed as XML. You create HTML sitemap for the users where they can find all the pages of your website in a sequence. While XML sitemap is created for Google and you submit it in the Google Webmaster to crawl all the pages of your website which you mention in this sitemap.
