Indeed. Java is platform independent programming language so you can start it with that but what I suggest you to go with you favorite one.
Also which operating system you are going to use ? Windows or linux ? that should also be considered while choosing scripting language.
You can use bash script on linux/unix while power shell scripting on windows 2008.
