Latency is the time it takes for a request to travel from the client to the server and back, while response time is the time it takes for the server to process the request and send back a response. Latency is the sum of the two, so a higher latency means a longer total request time.

Latency and response time are both metrics that measure time within a system; however, they reflect different dimensions of that time. Latency refers to the interval before a response is initiated, whereas response time encompasses the entire duration required to obtain a response.
