Hello friends,
How many type of TLDs..? |
There are now more than 1,000 top-level domains (TLDs) for internet addresses, covering everything from .abb to .zw. This week, seven TLDs were added to the internet's root as part of the "new generic TLD" process being run by DNS overseer ICANN, pushing it over the 1,000 thresholds.

Top-level domain (TLD) refers to the last segment of a domain name, or the part that follows immediately after the "dot" symbol.
TLDs are mainly classified into two categories: generic TLDs and country-specific TLDs. Examples of some of the popular TLDs include .com, .org, .net, .gov, .biz and .edu. |
Top Level Domains or TLDs are the suffixes or the last part of a domain name - the letters that come after the dot to the right of any domain name. They are of 4 types as below.
- Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs) - Generic-Restricted Top-Level Domains - Sponsored Top-Level Domains (sTLD) - Country Code Top-Level Domains (ccTLD) |
- Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs)
- Generic-Restricted Top-Level Domains - Sponsored Top-Level Domains (sTLD) - Country Code Top-Level Domains (ccTLD) |
They can be subdivided into two types, "sponsored" TLDs (sTLDs) and "unsponsored TLDs (uTLDs), as described in more detail below. In addition to gTLDs and ccTLDs, there is one special TLD, .arpa, which is used for technical infrastructure purposes.

As of June 2020, there are 1,514 top-level domains (TLDs) currently in use according to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the non-profit that regulates and coordinates the internet domain namespace.
