It seems to me that now a days nofollows links are equally important for Search Engine Optimization process... because some times it can redirect huge quality traffic etc..

NoFollow links cant increase pagerank.But there are some benefits for the NoFollow links. It will help to get better position in search results. Alexa will count NoFollow links as backlinks, So you can get better ranking in alexa.

Nofollow links can have a use in preventing Google or Bing from following a test or “work in progress” page of your site.
Social media and content are more important than the “nofollow” attributes that you may set up on some links.
Nofollow links are always worth testing out once you get a bit more traffic to your site.

Yes maintaining a proper dofollow and nofollow ratio is always Good. But nowadays getting a dofollow links is really difficult task :( sad but true
