I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate all of you giving us feedback as we go through this tough time with this Penguin update� Anyway, originally one of our SEO tactics was having custom written articles sent to various article sites and posted. Since that a lot of them were scraped and ripped off and I believe affected our SEO greatly.

If you are talking about writing articles and submitting them to directories, or using copied contents from directories, since the latest Google updates, both of those methods have lost effectiveness up to a degree. Instead of using copied contents, write the articles manually or even purchase them from experienced authors. Do not publish duplicate contents on your site. Also, submitting articles to dozens of directories for the sake of gathering some fast links does not seem to be working any longer.
