This tool used to be based on Yahoo Site Explorer data, but neither service is available any longer.
Because Yahoo Site Exploerer shut down, there is no way this tool can give you backlink data any longer, there is a good backlink checker tool out there: digbacklink.com

I do make use of Backlinkwatcher.com so as to monitor the backlinks of a particular website. This site is the best one to monitor backlinks.

In my view Backlinkswatch and ahref are best online services to know our back links of our webpages.

For me, the Google webmaster tools seem to correspond best with number of visitors. So this is the one I tend to use. But I run a content-based website and your mileage may vary. As always it's a case of 'horses for courses'.

If you can spend the cash - ahrefs rocks big time. It has been fantastic.
