What kind of learning toys would you get for your 4 year old?

My son will be 4 in a few weeks, going to preschool this fall and I can not get him to learn his abcs or to count. He knows if threes 1, 2 or 3 of something but cant get him to go any higher. What kind of learning toys should I get him to help? I have tried just saying them with him, letters and numbers on his walls, flashcards.

You may buy special puzzles with letters and numbers and there also his favourite heroes and if he wants to get his favourite character he is to learn this seria of numbers or letters.
